Chuck St. John and Steve Mennie are Canadian artists living and working in
south central British Cloumbia. Both artists explore the fragmentary effects of light, respectively, through faceted glass and shadows cast by and through porch furniture in this well-matched presentation at the Shuswap Art Gallery Association's Salmon Arm Gallery.

St. John uses cast and cast-off industrial metal parts, fabricating kiln-fired glass and cast stone elements to create an unified, weathered and mysterious look to this series of pieces. Many have a "scientific" look to them, several having actual functions that produce repeatable effects, although this feature is not the defining goal of the work. To view his web site click here.

Mennie has been exploring the surface reflection and graphic shadow effects of light into his sun porch in a series of continually evolving paintings with rich layers of painterly textures for more than a year. Several pastel drawings are also included in the show, showing his masterful technique with this medium as well.
